Mosh Pit Tart Cherry Ale (NoLI Brewhouse, Spokane, WA)

th-3We’ve featured NoLi beer before, and my intent was to give our Beer of the Week some variety, but then NoLi came along with this little special release beer called Mosh Pit Tart Cherry Ale. I was lucky enough to try this beer during the fall when it was still aging in barrels. At the time it wasn’t ready, it was certainly tart, and you could tell there were a world of possibilities and directions this beer could grow into. Patiently I waited for them to decide that it had aged to perfection and was ready for wide release.

When I first tried it in the NoLi Taproom (1003 E. Trent #170, Spokane, WA 99202), I was a little underwhelmed. Looking back, I had started with NoLi’s Wrecking Ball Stout –a phenomenal beer, I must say- which, I believe, literally wrecked my palette and did not allow me to fully enjoy the Mosh Pit Tart Cherry Ale; a more refined and subtle, craft beer. Then I found it in the special release 4 packs and had to give it another go, and I’m glad I did.

What I found was that my first one was very drinkable, but with no “Wow Factor”. It gave a slight tart kick, barley any cherry, but had a nice pop in its step as it went down. Like the sirens song or that damn Lil’ Wayne hook you just can’t escape, it called to me, beckoning me back for more. With each sip the flavors seemed to burst out more and more. The tart never become obtrusive and the cherry eases you into it so gently you’ll never think you’re drinking a fruit beer.

If you’re looking for a sour beer, this probably isn’t for you. But if you want a flavorful, very drinkable beer with it’s own unique twist, then The Mosh Pit Tart Cherry Ale is for you.

Available in the NoLi Taproom and in 4 pack bottles at fine craft beer retailers locally.
